(田中さんはお酒があまり飲めません)
部長:もっと飲め。
社員田中:__________.
• 考えておきます• ご勘弁願えませんでしょうか• 止めてください• 大変恐縮です
English:
(Tanaka-san doesn't drink much alcohol.)
Section lead: Drink more.
Employee Tanaka-san: Could you please give me a break?
大変恐縮です(たいへんきょうしゅくです)- I'm terribly sorry
恐縮(きょうしゅく)is a very polite way of saying すみません. Very similar to "I'm afraid..." in English.
e.g 恐縮ですがお手伝い願えませんか。- May I make so bold as to request your assistance?
考えておきます(かんがえておきます)- I'll think about it
verb て form plus おきます means "do something in advance" but is used in business to say. "I'll do (something)"
e.g 伝えておきます。- I'll tell them (about it later)
止めてください(とめてください)- Please stop
verb て form plus ください means "please (do this)"
It's used with strangers and people you know, but wouldn't be used with someone higher ranking than you (like your boss.)
e.g 飲んでください - Please drink.
ご勘弁願えませんでしょうか (ごかんべんおねがいませんでしょうか)- Please give me a break
勘弁(かんべん)means "pardon", but is often used in the phrase 勘弁してください or 勘弁してくれ which means "give me a break".
To make this more polite (i.e to a superior) you can add ご to 勘弁 and follow it with a more polite お願えませんでしょうか.
